at 50!

With a passion for flowers and a passion for learning, it was inevitable that I’d enrol on another course — but in true Deb fashion, not one course… but three!

Starting tomorrow, I’ll be a student at Hugh Baird College again (I studied Level 2 Hairdressing there many years ago). I’ll be back in a physical classroom and spending some time working in their florist shop, L20.

This is September sorted!

In October, I begin Module 2 of Kays Flower School, an online four-week course run by Janette, Deirdre and Sinead — three sisters who run a brilliant family business. I loved Module 1, so I’m really looking forward to progressing.

Module 2 focuses on the art of mastering the hand-tie bouquet. It looks easy, but there are techniques and rhythms to learn to make them quickly and well — no customer wants to watch you remake a bouquet twenty times!

The course also covers funeral work and key floral tributes. I’ve been making funeral pieces since my brother passed 20 years ago, but learning the professional ratios, mechanics and design standards is a whole new depth of training.
